Those who refused to follow the Godslayer were imprisoned and sometimes killed by his followers. Existing buildings were also repurposed for his military. Multiple buildings on the isle were dedicated to his army, including a training camp, a forge, and a prison. Over the course of his crusade he took over multiple regions, killing warriors and monks alike. The Godslayer asked his followers to sacrifice their lives to him so that he could destroy the gods, ascend to godhood, and then remake the world as he promised. After this they helped to clear a path through the spirit world in order to allow him to acquire the Sun Sword. He realized that the only way to create a single path was to remake the world itself, destroying the Tall Ones in the process. When he wore the mask he saw the "terrible chaos" of the world, and realized that there was no single path anywhere. Their efforts allowed the Pathfinder to gain the Mask of Ancients. Under him they conquered all of the regions of the island, even breaching the passage into the Mountain Tundra. They helped him through many of the obstacles he faced. At some point he was imprisoned, but he converted several other inmates to his cause before being freed by his followers. He took on the name the Pathfinder, gaining followers who were willing to both kill and die for him. Instead he proposed the One True Path, a single, ultimate path that every person's life would follow. He began to speak out against the Tall Ones when he was no more than a young man, seeing the world they ruled as chaotic and filled with uncertainty. The Godslayer is implied to have begun life as an ordinary human. He wields the Sun Sword in one hand.Ī full view of the Godslayer. A tail similar to the ones the Tall Ones have sprouts from his back. His shoes are pointed and his hands are clawed. He is tall, thin, and physically larger than a normal human. Beaded tassels hang from the rear points and each eye is capable of movement. The Godslayer wears a dark patterned tunic with light trim, a sash, and the Mask of Ancients (a three-eyed, tricorn-like mask that enables him to "see as the Tall Ones see"). Before the events of the game he curses each of the Tall Ones in order to control them, using them in his attempt to end the world and impede the Hunter's progress. He is the main force behind the destruction of the isle and the deaths of its inhabitants. Players can also toggle an auto-run option so they don't have to keep dragging their finger on the left side of the screen to keep movement going.Godslayer (also referred to as the Pathfinder) is the main antagonist. The developers decided to not use an on-screen, virtual controller, because they believed having to make players worry too much about where they were pressing without the tactile feedback of buttons would take people out of the experience. Tap anywhere on the right side to jump, while a single button on screen is used to shoot. Meanwhile, for those playing on touchscreens via the Apple Arcade, The Pathless splits the screen in two, letting players drag their finger around on the screen to move on the left side while controlling the camera on the right. Nava said the game will default to the 60 fps version, but that players can change it if they choose. Nava also confirmed that, for PS5, The Pathless will have multiple performance options for players to choose: one at 4K/30 fps, and another at 60 fps with a lower resolution. “After going back to playing on a PS4 controller, I realized I missed that extra indicator of the timing,” he said.
